On Wednesday September 19 the Captains met at Glory Days Pizza – Lake Shawnee to draft the teams.
Surprise! They decided to start from scratch and mix everything up, which hasn’t been done to this extent for a few seasons.
See the rosters below. It is still possible that there will be minor changes. The Captains will meet again after the third game night to make adjustments by trading players if necessary in an attempt to come up with 4 teams that are fairly equal. We will order jerseys after that meeting.
Those few players with the correct team jerseys will not receive new ones. We will order jerseys for new players and those returning players moved to a new team. Until we get jerseys, try to borrow one or wear something close to your team color. I won’t get your stats right if I can’t tell who you are, especially for new players, so please make sure I know what number you are wearing before the game.
The complete season schedule is now visible on the Expocentre website found at http://www.ksexpo.com/p/events/ice-calendar/148 and in calendar format on the league website at https://topekaadulthockey.com/. This will be the official schedule but as we know it is always subject to change, depending on changing events at the Expocentre.
Every season I get a lot of requests to make schedule changes because of work or school schedules, driving distances, holidays, personal stuff, etc. Making changes for one messes it up for others, so I cannot honor these types of requests.
Games will be 3 15-minute stop-clock periods. This takes about 75 minutes on average. Regular season ties are settled with a 5-shot shootout. Bryan Clements has been hired by the Expo to run the clock and keep stats this year. I will continue to update the standings and player statistics. These will be available on both the Expocentre website and the league website.
We are also cutting off new registrations after we have 12 skaters per team, which is now. Any more than that cuts into each players ice time. Anyone asking to join the league after the cap of 12 skaters per team will be placed on a waiting list. They will be offered a spot if we lose rostered players, which happens due to injuries, deployments, changing work schedules, etc.
Officials will be on the ice starting with Game 1. Remember that we have players of all talent levels and ages. Do not get frustrated with others. THIS IS A RECREATIONAL LEAGUE. Play for fun, not for blood. 1 punch or intentional check = immediate ejection + suspension from the next game. This means with or without gloves, whacks, head butts, kicks, elbows, etc. The Captains have discussed and agreed that habitual rough play by any player will trigger a meeting that could result in removal of an offending player. Making up, shaking hands, kissing, etc. after the game does not change the ruling, so don’t let yourself or your teammate get into that position. Also the Commissioner, by written rule, is completely separate from the officials. I do not select them, schedule them, interfere, reverse, or otherwise get involved in their calls and decisions that is their job to make. Other than me reporting their attendance, the officials answer only to their employer which is the Kansas Expocentre. Arguing with or verbally abusing the officials will also get you tossed. They will not put up with it at all.
